Each
drawing records a single moment in time and describes as much about
my own condition as the object of my focus. Choosing the human figure as
subject is analogous to the relationship we have
with ourselves and others. Often one in the same, these relationships
are constantly changing and have a monumental and sometimes momentary
impact on the ongoing metamorphosis of who we are.
The rhythm of the line and feeling of the drawing
are a direct litmus to these two variables, leaving on the
drawing surface, a record of the experience … Whether an intentional
pose or a candid gesture, the figure communicates the ubiquitous tension
between vulnerability and individual wholeness. Within all experience,
whether artistic, emotional, or intellectual, we seek to connect through
expression whilst simultaneously looking for inner and individual peace.
I draw the figure with a sense of urgency seeking
to express passion and
my immense appreciation of our temporary nature.
